It’s only humans that have the need to feel special.
The animals and the nature do not seem to have the need to feel special.
Why is that?
Do they know something that we don’t?
Together, let’s explore why do we want to feel special?
What does that mean for us?
Can that be changed?
And should we try to change that?
Why Do We Want To Feel Special?
“You are not a drop in the ocean. You are the entire ocean in a drop.”― Rumi
Is a single sun ray the whole sun?
Is a single drop in the ocean the entire ocean?
Yes and Yes.
Let’s take our ocean drop for example.
Our ocean drop had an idea that it is separate from the ocean.
And then it started believing that idea.
And then it started living its life as separate from the ocean.
And now our ocean drop is aware of its littleness compared to the whole ocean.
It feels small, inadequate, unimportant, and it’s terrified of the ocean.
It thinks that the ocean is out to get it.
It thinks the ocean wants to punish it.
Meanwhile, the drop is still a part of the ocean, not separated at all, just believing that it is.
Furthermore, the entire ocean is not even aware of the fearful thoughts of separation going through the drop’s mind.
As far as the entire ocean is concerned, the drop is a part of the ocean.
This is us.
We are the ocean’s drop.
We get this crazy ideas that we are sperate individuals.
We look at our bodies and we see the “evidence” in it.
We think we are little, unimportant, insignificant, afraid of losing who we think we are.
But it’s the illusion of separateness that makes us feel incomplete and in constant search of something that will make us feel special and complete.
If we only knew how special and complete and glorious we all are, if we only acknowledge who we truly are.
Why are we so afraid of this idea?
Why are we so terrified of loosing who we think we are?
We first separate ourselves from the Whole and then we become terrified of the Whole and that the Whole will swallow us back.
Is it possible that the seeming separateness that we experience in our lives is just an illusion?
We are so terrified of loosing what we think we have achieved and become as our separate ones, that we are willing to live in fear and misery to preserve the illusion of separateness.
What Does That Mean For Us?
Every time you have the need for feeling special should be a signal to you that you are living in an illusion.
Every time you feel a void or a lack of something, should tell you that you have chosen to believe in the limited version of yourself.
You have chosen to be the little ocean drop instead of the entire ocean.
We all have a choice to make.
We can remain believing that we are separate from the Whole, continue being afraid and miserable, endlessly searching to fill the void inside of us. We can remain believing we are little and unimportant.
Or we can give it all up.
The misery, the pain, the seemingly gloom and dark ending to each existence
The fight, the struggle, the depression and the anxiety.
The illusion of what we think we are.
And joyously join the Whole.
You will not die, you will not be swallowed by the Whole but parts of you will have to be shed
The parts that are not real.
The parts that you have made.
Will have to go.
You have to choose what you want and let go of the other.
We are confused because we attempt to follow two completely different thought systems.
They cannot co-exist.
You can not believe at the same time that you are the ocean’s drop and the entire ocean.
For one to exist the other will have to go.
Do you want to live in this painful, miserable world or do you want to join the joyous, glorious Whole?
Can That Be Changed?
“The awakening is finally realizing that you are a part of God, like a single cell that finally sees it is a part of you.” ― LJ Vanier
Yes, it can be changed.
Once you choose the correct perspective on your life and who you think you are, the need for feeling special will go away as you will know with absolute certainty how worthy and special you and everyone else is.
But for that to occur, you have to choose which thought system you will follow.
You have to decide for yourself whether you think you are the small drop or are you the entire ocean?
Should We Try To Change That?
“You are not in the world. The world is in you.” – Deepak Chopra
Well, this is entirely up to you.
Do you want to love your life as a small and insignificant person separated from everyone and everything?
Or do you want to realize who you really are, the glorious and magnificent Whole that has everything already inside of you?
You do not need anyone else to fulfill the need to feel special and love, you are special and you have love inside of you.
As you return to accepting the truth about you and everyone else as the Whole instead of your separate body, you will return to safety. You will return to inner happiness and contentment.
We return to peace and joy.
Aren’t you tired of trying to protect your magnitude in this world?
Aren’t you tired of feeling alone and separate?
Let it all go.
You don’t have to do it all at once.
Do it slowly.
Give it a try and see how it feels.
How Do We Go About Changing Our Mind?
“A human being is a part of the whole, called by us the ‘universe,’ a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feelings, as something separated from the rest—a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest to us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty.” – Albert Einstein
It all starts with being fed up with living this limited life that we are living.
It starts with wanting more and with the desire to find the truth.
I always felt that the way we are living our lives is totally off, but I could not put my finger on it.
I searched and searched and finally the answer came.
But when the answer came it was so drastically different from what I thought the truth was that it caused major discomfort in my life.
This stage took years.
Slowly undoing the illusions of my existence.
But it all started with my willingness to do what is required to find and then accept the truth.
I don’t think there is a step by step guide to get there.
What I do know is that the following is true for everyone:
#1 – The willingness to find the truth
It all starts with the willingness to find the truth. Without that, there is no going forward.
#2 – The willingness to accept the truth no matter the cost
The cost of accepting the truth is you and your entire life as you know it. But if you only knew what awaits on the other side, you would not even look back for a second. Give up the pain and misery and be willing to accept the glory and magnificence of who you truly are.
#3 – Be vigilant
Staying strong in the new beliefs is crucial.
#4 – Do not giving into temptation
You might become overwhelmed with the new ideas and be tempted to just go back to the old way of living and thinking. Do not give into temptation. It is too late, you are too far ahead to go back to the way your life once was. Once you have explored the possibility that we are living an illusion, it is impossible to go back. Doing that will only waste time.
#5 – Accept fear
Fear is not the goal here, but the truth is so drastic different from what we think we are and what the world is that certain amount of fear is inevitable.
#6 – Don’t lose faith
Don’t lose faith. This is a process, a process of undoing all untruths. It has to be slow, otherwise it would be too fearful to you. Don’t worry about how long it will take. Every day do what is required to get you further ahead in accepting the truth. Trust that you will be told what to do and that guides will appear as necessary to help you along your journey back to the truth.

“Yet the truth is you and your brother were both created by a loving Father, Who created you together and as one. See what ‘proves’ otherwise, and you deny your whole reality. But grant that everything that seems to stand between you and your brother, keeping you from each other and separate from your Father, you made in secret, and the instant of release has come to you. All its effects are gone, because its source has been uncovered. It is its seeming independence of its source that keeps you prisoner. This is the same mistake as thinking you are independent of the Source by Which you were created, and have never left.” – A Course In Miracles
