You want to be more spiritual in your life but have you ever worried that you will have to choose between being spiritual and abundant?
“We are not human beings having a spiritual experience. We are spiritual beings having a human experience.” – Pierre Teilhard de Chardin
Being alive means we are on a spiritual journey whether we consciously realize that or not. There is no denying that there is more to this life than our bodies and what we can experience through our senses. Although many people still choose to be oblivious to the spiritual aspects of ourselves, more and more people are waking up and contemplating the metaphysical aspects of life.
If you are one of the many people that are conscious of the spiritual aspect in your life, you have probably wondered whether spirituality and abundance are mutually exclusive. I know I have, many times in fact. On the one hand, I definitely want to explore the spiritual side of my life, at the same time I do not want to give up the comforts and freedom that abundance can provide.
We all know individuals that worship the mighty dollar, and they dedicate their lives to chasing it, never even realizing that there is more to life than that. They don’t even pause for a minute to ask if there might be a different way. In my experience, those people have it backwards. There is a different way to achieve abundance, but it requires a totally different perspective and outlook on your life and how the world works.
What Is Abundance?
We should start off with defining abundance. For most people, when we talk about abundance we are talking about materialistic abundance and financial wealth. Abundance, in general, is a feeling of having more than enough of something. Most people associate abundance with money and wealth, but one could have little money but have abundance of other things like health, time, love, etc. Abundance is a feeling of well-being. A feeling where lack doesn’t exist. Abundance is our birth given right. According to Janice Gallant – The Universe is inherently designed to meet your needs.
What Is Spirituality?
Spirituality is your connection to your higher self, spirit, or soul. In a broad definition, spirituality is a view that there is more to the world and life than meets the eye. We experience our world and life through our senses. Spirituality is realizing that there is another perspective. Spirituality is going beyond your senses and connecting with your spirit. Many people find this concept frightening because they do not understand it. But by choosing to experience life only as a body through your senses, you are missing the other half of it. Spirituality is the connection with your spirit, the energy or force that gives your body life.
Is It Possible To Have Both?
Deepak Chopra explains the concept of wealth and abundance consciousnesses in his video called The Metaphysics of Money: 7 Laws of Abundance – YouTube
Most people think that spirituality and abundance (wealth) do not go together, and that you must make a choice and pick one. This is not the case; however, we do choose where we spend most of our efforts. Some people focus on chasing money and whatever time they have left, if any, they dedicate to spiritual practices. My experience has always been the opposite. If I focus my efforts on re-discovering my connection with the spirit, surrendering, and allowing the higher self energy flowing freely through me, wealth and materialistic abundance followed, almost as a side effect. But there is more to it than that. It still appears that I’m making a choice between one and the other when in fact my whole perspective has changed. Through spiritual practices I am connecting to an abundance consciousness on an energetic level. All that this means is that I must first feel what I want to experience.
This is not easy to do at first. If I feel a lack of money, for example, how am I supposed to feel the abundance of money to experience it? But this is the effort part required to achieve that. You have to find a way to forget or overlook the fact that you think you don’t have enough money, instead focus on the aspects of your life that feel abundant to you already. This means, don’t think about the bills to be paid, instead focus on the things that feel good. Maybe you have great health. You can use that to feel abundance of health and well-being. Maybe you have some free time on your hands. You could focus on feeling the abundance of time. Maybe you are incredibly lucky and have a big family. You could focus on feeling abundance of love and caring.
This only appears hard to do at first. Once we are able to overlook what we perceive lacking in our lives and focus solely on what we consider going well in our lives, a shift in perception happens. This will feel good, and we like feeling good.
What Does It Take?
It takes practice, practice, and practice. Our first instinct is to find ways to earn the money we think we are lacking usually by working hard. But practice requires taking a minute before acting, acknowledging the urge but then deciding to behave differently. Following a different pattern. It also takes trust in the universe and the process and the belief that we are meant to live life in abundance. Whenever any doubt creeps into my mind, I always look at nature. There is abundance everywhere. Look at an apple tree. How many apples does the apple tree produce every year? Way more than is required or is even necessary. One may even say that nature is wasteful with it’s abundance. If the apple tree is living in abundance, why shouldn’t we?
What Does Practicing Look Like?
Practicing spirituality involves the following:
– reading spiritual books and articles
– watching spiritual videos
– following spiritual teachers
– counting your blessings
– develop your own daily spiritual practice
Practicing really means looking for reasons to have the feelings of abundance before you can experience them in the physical world. You can use the above suggestions and others to get you there. Through daily practice, you have to learn to broaden your perspective. You have to be able to change the outlook on abundance before your can see the manifestations of it.
Living in lack does not serve you or anyone in the world. I think it is worth the effort to change your outlook on how the world works and realize that spirituality and abundance not only go together but are inseparable.
“The fastest way to bring more wonderful examples of abundance into your personal experience is to take constant notice of the wonderful things that are already there.”– Ester Hicks
