Pain and suffering seem to be a part of our everyday existence.
Only a few realize that it does not have to be so.
We have a choice, we can choose joy over pain and suffering.
How To Choose Joy?
“If you are not living in joy, you are out of integrity with your soul.” ~ Michael Beckwith
It is our thoughts alone that cause us pain.
There is no external cause beyond ourselves that can reach down and bring oppression.
There is nothing in the world that has the power to make us ill, sad, weak, or frail.
It is us who have the power to dominate all things we see by merely recognizing what we are.
As we perceive the harmlessness in external things, we accept who we are.
The world we see does nothing.
It has no effect at all.
It merely represents our thoughts.
And it will change entirely as we choose to change our thoughts and choose joy instead of pain and misery.
Your ego is afraid of joy because it knows that once you have experienced it, you will withdraw all protection from the ego and become totally without investment in fear.
The ego rejoices in fear.
Leave it behind.
Do not listen to the ego, do not trust it.
Do not believe when it shows you a false and unworthy picture of yourself and of others.
We have to learn to associate misery with the ego and joy with the spirit.
We have taught ourselves the opposite.
But now, are free to choose.

To Heal Is To Make Happy
“Joy does not simply happen to us. We have to choose joy and keep choosing it every day.”
By listening to the ego’s voice we refuse to heal ourselves.
The light that belongs to us is the light of joy.
We cannot be healed and attempt to heal without being wholly joyous ourselves.
When we chose to believe that we have separated ourselves from God, we have made the ego.
But at the same time that the ego was made, God would not abandon his children and he placed in our minds the call to joy.
The call to joy is there to guide us back to where we belong.
The call to joy is so strong that it has the ability to dissolve the ego.
That is why we must choose to hear one of two voices within us.
One that we made ourselves, and one that God placed in us to remind us of who we truly are.
The spirit’s voice calls us back to where we were before and will be again.
It takes effort and willingness to learn but it is possible in this world to only hear the voice of the spirit and not the other.
When we choose to hear the spirit’s voice instead of the ego’s, we will simultaneously exchange guilt for joy and pain for peace.
The ego is not able to accept this freedom and will resist it at every possible moment in every possible way.
And we, as the ego’s makers, recognize what it can do because we gave it the power to do it.

How To Find Joy In A Joyless World?
“When you do things from your soul, you feel a river moving in you, a joy.” ~ Rumi
The only way to find joy in a joyless world is to perceive yourself as not in this world.
The world is unhappy and the only way to find joy is to acknowledge that we are not in this world.
How else would we be able to find joy in a joyless place except by realizing that we are not there?
We cannot be anywhere that God did not put us.
But we can choose to believe that we are and as a result reject joy and happiness.
The spirit is a wise teacher that teaches through approach and not avoidance.
The emphasis is not on what we must do to escape from pain but what we can learn to have joy.
The spirit does not teach us what not to do, instead, it teaches us “do only that”.
The spirit teaches us the whole glory and perfect joy lie in us ready to be recognized and extended to the rest of the world.
Our unhealed minds are blocking the joy in us.
In this depressing state, the spirit reminds us gently that we are sad because we are depriving ourselves of joy.
And that this is not God’s choice but ours, and as such can be changed at any moment.
In this sad state, we do not recognize what is painful and what is joyful and confuse the two all the time.
The spirit’s main function is to teach us to tell them apart.
What is truly joyous is painful to the ego and for as long as we are confused about who we are, we will be confused about joy and pain.
Listen to the spirit’s voice and we will be able to give up the ego and as a result, gain everything.
The Opposite Of Joy Is Depression
“Joy is a return to the deep harmony of body, mind, and spirit that was yours at birth and that can be yours again. That openness to love, that capacity for wholeness with the world around you, is still within you.” ~ Deepak Chopra
If the learning promotes depression instead of joy, we are not listening to spirit’s joyous voice and we are not learning the lessons.
If we continue to identify with the body and see it as more than a means of communication we are limiting our minds and hurting ourselves.
Healing is then required first.
The body needs to be brought under the purpose of the mind and become whole because the mind’s purpose is one.
Apart from the mind, the body has no purpose at all.
Do not deny yourself the joy that was created for you for the misery that you have made for yourself.
God has given us the means for undoing what we have made.
Listen, and you will learn how to remember who you are.
If we listen, the light will come.
We will see such beauty that we will know it is not of us.
The bleak little world that we have made will vanish into nothingness.
Our hearts will be filled with joy.
The way is not hard but it is very different.
Our way is the way of pain; hard and very lonely.
Fear and guilt are our companions.
But the dark journey does not lead us home.
We can walk in light instead for we were created of light and in light.
If we still see the dark companions, it is only because we are denying the light.
But we can deny them instead, for the light is here and the way is clear.
“Find joy and peace in this very moment.” ~ Thich Nhat Hanh
