No one likes fear because intuitively we know that we were meant to feel only love.
Some of us have justified the existence of fear in our lives by thinking that it is useful.
It is not.
The only useful function it serves is that it lets us know that something has gone wrong and hopefully forces us to start asking and contemplating.
Fear is the opposite of love.
We are pure love.
Therefore, when we start experiencing fear in our lives we have allowed illusions as to who we really are into our hearts and minds and we started believing them.
It’s time to ask ourselves: how to be free of fear?

Why Do We Feel Fear?
“For fear lies not in reality, but in the minds of children who do not understand reality.” (ACIM, T-11.VIII.14:4)
Our intended state is pure love, joy, and happiness.
Why do we feel fear then?
We feel fear because we have allowed fear into our hearts and minds by forgetting who we really are and what our purpose is.
We deceive ourselves thinking that we know who we are.
This deception makes us fearful because in our hearts we know this is a deception and we spend a great amount of effort trying to bring this illusion to reality.
This manifests as a terrible emptiness that we try to fulfill our entire life by chasing one thing after another in an endless pursuit of happiness and fulfillment.

How To Be Free Of Fear?
The world you see is a vengeful world, and everything in it is a symbol of vengeance. Each of your perceptions of “external reality” is a pictorial representation of your own attack thoughts. (ACIM, W-23.3:1-2)
Before we can escape the grasps of fear, we first must recognize the fact that we mainly live in fear and darkness.
When we become willing to recognize and acknowledge this, the journey to freedom from fear begins.
While the road to peace and joy should be a happy one, coincidentally it usually entails a great amount of fear.
We can become free of fear when we start to realize that nothing beyond ourselves can make us fearful because there is nothing beyond ourselves.
We won’t be able to progress until we stop believing that anything happening to us is caused by factors that are outside of us.
That is only the first step, for to recognize fear is not enough to escape from it.
However, the recognition is necessary in order to demonstrate to ourselves the need for escape.
There Is Only Love Or Asking For Love
All fear is past, because its source is gone, and all its thoughts gone with it. Love remains the only present state, whose Source is here forever and forever. (ACIM, W-293.1:1-2)
We have loving thoughts and fearful thoughts.
We can learn to accept only the loving thoughts as real and regard the fearful thoughts as an appeal for help.
As fear itself is an appeal for help and nothing else.
This is what recognizing fear really is, a call for love.
Fear is a symptom of your own deep sense of loss.
You have allowed yourself to believe that you are not perfect love and feel the lack.
To ease the pain of this belief, we try to look for love outside of us, where it is not.
Afraid Of Fear
Our states of mind are so distorted that we are not afraid of fear.
We do not like it, but we are not disturbed by the hostility it causes.
We keep it hidden because we are more afraid of what it covers.
If we look deep inside of us, we would find that we are not really afraid of fear.
Our real terror is of love, recognizing the love that we are.
For this has caused the illusion of separation and we have protected it because we do not really want the separation to be healed.
We realize that by removing the dark cloud that obscures who we really are and our true purpose, the illusions of our lives would disappear and we would experience perfect peace and happiness.
This is what we really want to hide.
If we allow ourselves to be perfectly honest, it is harder for us to say “I love you” than ” I have you”.
We associate love with weakness and hatred with strength.
As a result, our own real power looks like a weakness to us.
If we allowed ourselves to hear the call of love, we could not control our joyous response to it.
The world that we think we made would vanish completely.
But this idea seems to be attacking our fortress and we are terrified of it.
We have built our whole belief system because we think we would be helpless if we surrendered to the love that we are.
We think this would crush us into nothingness.
We are afraid that when we acknowledge the divine love that we are we would be swept away from ourselves and we would become little and insignificant.
We think that magnitude lies in defiance.
We think that the acknowledgment of the love in us would destroy our world.
Therefore, we use the world that we created to cover the pure love that we are and we go deeper and deeper into the blackness of the illusions of fear, as this is what frightens us the most.
Accepting The Truth Of What We Are
Deny we were created in His Love and we deny our Self, to be unsure of Who we are, of Who our Father is, and for what purpose we have come. (ACIM, W-276.1:6)
The world that we have made is insane.
We can accept insanity because we have made it but we cannot accept love because we did not.
We would rather be slaves to fear than accept love.
Our individual death seems more valuable to us than the living oneness, for what is given us is not so dear as what we have made.
We are more afraid of love than of fear and love cannot enter where it is not welcome.
We must be willing to look upon the illusions for beneath them is hidden our true loving mind.
The pain we feel is so apparent that the need for healing cannot be denied.
And not all the tricks and games of the fearful mind can heal it.
Do not hide the suffering that you feel.
Lay all your hurt out and allow it to be healed.
Do not leave any spot of pain hidden from the light and search your mind carefully for all thoughts you may fear to uncover.
For the healing of every little thought, you kept to hurt you will cleanse it of its littleness restoring it to your true loving mind.

The Two Emotions
We have only two emotions, love and fear.
Love is changeless but continually changing for it to increases as it is given.
Fear has many forms, depending on the different content of individual illusions.
The many varieties of fear forms have one thing in common; they are insane.
They are made of sights that are not there and sounds that are not there.
They make up a private world that cannot be shared with others.
They are meaningful only to the maker and as such, they have no meaning at all.
In this world, their maker moves alone, for only the maker can perceive them.
To escape this insanity, we need to learn to look upon the light and realize that what we feared was there was never really there.
Once we allow the healing, the insane illusions will be replaced with love, and everything fearful will disappear from our minds.
Now that we know how to be free of fear, it’s time to start being diligent in practicing it.
